On October 28, 2015, the United States Department of Agriculture announced the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, Office of Energy Innovation was awarded $3.7 million through the Biofuels Infrastructure Program (BIP) to significantly expand and support the installation of ethanol blending equipment at retail fuel stations throughout the state.
The primary objectives of the Biofuels Retail Advancement in Wisconsin Transportation program were:
- Increase consumption and availability of ethanol throughout Wisconsin
- Provide retail ethanol fueling outlets near major fleets and travel corridors
- Increase and promote public awareness of the benefits of ethanol as a transportation fuel including environmental benefits, national energy security and economic development
Through the project, funding assistance was available for equipment and installation related to:
- Dedicated new E15/E25 pumps
- Blender pumps capable of dispensing E85, E15 and potential other mid-level ethanol blends
- Dedicated E85 pumps
- Underground storage tanks for ethanol blends
A comprehensive marketing and outreach program in conjunction with the deployment of the stations was included in the project.
