Piatt PhD\, MSCE\, Chair\, Department of Life Sciences\, Professor of Chemistry and Life Sciences\, Carroll University \nDr. Joseph Piatt will speak on the environmental effects of Data Centers. With growing pressure to build more Data Centers in Wisconsin\, citizens are questioning their need for space\, water and power. Dr Piatt will address matters such as the footprint needed to house centers and how they may displace natural habitat. He will discuss the amounts of water needed to cool their systems which may affect ground and surface water. Dr. Piatt will explain how the power demands are slated to prolong dependence on fossil fuels and undermine the development of renewable energy.Dr. Joseph Piatt holds a PHD from the University of Arizona’s Department of Soil\, Water and Environmental Science\, Dr. Piatt teaches Chemistry\, Biochemistry and Environmental Science at Carroll University of Wisconsin.\n\n\n\n12:00 pm – 1:00 pm \n\n\nLunch (Ham\, Turkey & Vegetarian sandwiches will be made available along with Cheesy poblano soup and salad\, Cookies\, Coffee\, water\, coke\, diet coke and sprite.)  \n\n\n\n\n1:00 pm – 2:00 pm \n\n\nTour of the Data Center and the sustainability infrastructure.  The tour lasts 30 minutes and is limited to a dozen people. Only three organizations in the US have received this esteemed award from the DOE. Always at the forefront of finding sustainable solutions for new technologies\, Potawatomi Ventures has recently built one of Wisconsin’s first eco-friendly Tier 3 data centers. Join us for a guided tour of their innovative\, award-winning institution\, including the background of this historical location\, with a review of the many restorations\, renovations\, and sustainability investments made at the Campus since its acquisition. \n \nWgema campus is a gated facility with a 43\,000-square-foot underground parking structure and features state-of-the-art security.  The surveilled underground parking structure leads to a vestibule\, directly across from the Wgecheda building\, which features a stone council circle and a statue of a Native American warrior seated beside a fire before its entrance. Once you are within the gated facility\, you will be directed by uniformed guards on where to park and how to enter the event venue. There are two entrances we recommend to drive into the facility: \n\nGate #2 on 32nd and Kilbourn\,\nGate #3 on 33rd and Wells.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \nWgema campus was originally built in 1881\, then known as Concordia College of Milwaukee\, a renowned academic institution that graduated many notable scientists\, politicians\, and athletes. The gym facilities hosted the Milwaukee Bucks. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar called it home.  The Forest County Potawatomi and its business venture division acquired the campus in 1990 and have since invested 100 million dollars in renovating its historic halls and retrofitting the architecture to support sustainable forms of energy\, while paying homage to its original character as they incorporate Potawatomi heritage.  Wgema serves as an Urban Indian Center\, featuring a school\, cafeteria\, gymnasium\, tribal court\, clinic\, treaty room\, and other vital facilities. WCC thanks our gracious hosts\, Potawatomi Ventures for donating the venue space for our event\, sharing with us their vision to preserve and restore the historic beauty of Wisconsin. \n  \n \n \n        \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nPotawatomi\, “The keepers of the fire”\, are not only one of Wisconsin’s leading hospitality ventures\, owning Milwaukee’s largest Casino and hotel\, but they also own and operate several restaurants\, event venues\, and branched into real estate development in 2010.  GreenFire Management has been working to restore several historical areas of interest throughout Wisconsin. You may view the renovation of the Wgema campus and other tribal projects here.
