Vice President of Market Development at Clean Transportation Solutions, TRC

Nate has 20 years of experience in transportation and developing new technology markets. Nate launched and runs the ACT Fleet Forum of more than 50 of North America’s largest fleets who adopt advanced technologies, from AI and autonomous vehicles to electric vehicles, renewable natural gas, and even hydrogen. He also developed and leads the State of Sustainable Fleets project, the first comprehensive, technology-neutral resource on leading advanced, clean fuel and vehicle technologies for the medium- and heavy-duty market. Previously he managed more than 50 projects with Fortune 500 companies on sustainability strategy and led global initiatives on clean vehicles and shipping. His market development expertise crosses EV, renewable natural gas, biodiesel and renewable diesel, hydrogen, CNG, and LNG for vehicle fleets and shipping globally, especially in US, Europe, and Latin America. Annually, he speaks, moderates, and writes across dozens of national and regional opportunities, including the State of Sustainable Fleets, and the ACT Fleet Forum.

Mr. Springer will be opening our event at 9 am, following breakfast, with a keynote presentation on the current state of alternative fuel use across the nation, with a focus on usage in fleets.

Mayor of Madison, Wisconsin

Satya Rhodes-Conway is the 58th Mayor of Madison. Her administration is focused on providing high-quality public services, rapid transit, equitable economic growth, and combating climate change. She has extensive experience in local policy and practice, having worked with mayors across the country for over a decade and having served three terms on the Madison Common Council. Elected in 2019 and again in 2023, she is the city’s second female mayor and the first out LGBTQ person to serve as Mayor of Madison. Mayor Rhodes-Conway is Chair Emerita of Climate Mayors, an appointed member of EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee. She serves on various committees and task forces for the US Conference of Mayors and the National League of Cities. She has degrees from Smith College and the University of California – Irvine. Ms. Rhodes-Conway will be welcoming T&I attendees to her beloved city of Madison, prior to the commencement of our luncheon.

Director of the Wisconsin Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy

Maria Redmond is at the forefront of Wiscosnin State’s efforts to combat climate change through the adoption of clean energy technologies. Maria has been instrumental in shaping our State’s Clean Energy Plan, which serves as a strategic blueprint to enhance sustainable energy practices across Wisconsin. Maria holds a Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Prior to her current position Ms. Redmond also served as the Director of Wisconsin Office of Energy Innovation, and a Senior Analyst and Program Manager of Transportation Fuels for the State Energy Office. With over 23 years of government experience , Ms. Redmond has been integral to Wisconsin’s adoption of bio fuels and multi-sector deep decarbonization programs.  Ms. Redmond will be serving as a panelist with fellow transportation and policy experts to answer questions about the current state of Wisconsin’s transportation infrastructure, its anticipated development, and the funding available for stakeholders.

Director of the Dane County Office of Energy & Climate Change

Ms. Kuntz is among the top leaders of climate action efforts, both internal to Dane County operations and countywide. Dane County recently received a $13.2M US DOT CFI grant to expand charging in multi-family neighborhoods, rural areas, and multi-modal hubs.  Kathy is regarded as a storehouse of knowledge to consult regarding how Dane County and its partners are planning to implement Charge Up Dane County, as well as other initiatives to expand clean fuel vehicles across the county. Ms. Kuntz has over 30 years of experience in the energy efficiency and climate action field; prior to her work at the County, she led a nonprofit called Cool Choices and also led Focus on Energy, Wisconsin’s statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy program. Ms. Kuntz has agreed to assemble and moderate two panels of top representatives from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Dane County, and Milwaukee County officials to discuss how Wisconsin can facilitate clean fuel choices in the wake of EV credits ending and tariffs being enacted. Her pointed questions will uncover what projects the State will continue to develop, what funding will be available for stakeholders, the current state of EV infrastructure in Wisconsin’s most concentrated areas: Dane & Milwaukee Counties, and the transportation policies anticipated to soon be adopted.

Director of Environmental Sustainability for the City of Milwaukee

Erick Shambarger is the Director of Environmental Sustainability for the City of Milwaukee, where he leads the Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO). He oversees implementation of Milwaukee’s Climate and Equity Plan, coordinates Milwaukee’s involvement with local, national, and global partnerships on environmental sustainability. He oversees all of ECO’s programs, including the Milwaukee Energy Efficiency (Me2) program, the Milwaukee Better Buildings Challenge, Water Centric City initiative, the Eco-Neighborhoods Initiative, and green infrastructure work. He led development of the City’s Green Infrastructure Plan, which was adopted in 2019, and is currently the Project Manager for the forthcoming Climate and Equity Plan. He also negotiated the City’s largest solar energy project to date, a 2.25MW solar system on a city-owned landfill, along with 11MW of other solar projects that will power 80 city buildings with 100% renewable electricity. He also launched Wisconsin’s first Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program that has financed over $40m in projects in the City. He is also co-founder of the Wisconsin Local Government Climate Coalition (WLGCC.org). Prior to his current role, he served as City Economist in the City’s Budget and Management Division. He holds a Master’s of Public Affairs degree from the University of Wisconsin and certificates in Water Technology, Energy Analysis and Policy, and Business Communications.  Mr. Shambarger will be discussing his personal efforts to expand Electric Vehicle charging across Milwaukee, including an assessment of the current state of EV infrastructure in Wisconsin’s most concentrated county, what infrastructure is slated to come, the transportation policies anticipated to be adopted, and the funding opportunities available to further electrification.

Executive Director of Midwest Tribal Energy Resources Association

Daniel Wiggins Jr is a Tribal Member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and also formerly served in the esteemed position as a Junior Councilman. Mr. Wiggins began his career as the Mashkiiziibii (Bad River) Natural Resource Department’s Air Quality Technician (AQT) over a decade ago.  Since 2017 he began overseeing his Tribe’s Renewable Energy activities. He led tribal code development, specifically the review and adoption of utility codes on electrical transmission and energy products. He also worked as the Project Lead for the Ishkonige Nawadide Solar Microgrid Project, which installed over 500 kilowatts of solar and 1,000 kilowatt hours of batteries at three tribal facilities.  Daniel Wiggins is known for creatively planning and executing projects that capitalize on Tribal sovereignty to enable the community to move towards energy independence. He focuses on empowering Tribes to manage their own energy resources, including policy development for utilities and electrical transmission, and the installation of solar microgrid projects for the Tribe. At MTERA, Daniel is responsible for leading and managing the overall operations, programs and staff, as well as representing the organization in various forums and advocating for the interests and needs of tribal members with respect to clean energy! MTERA’s vision is to, “To empower Tribes to manage Tribal energy resources through collective action.” Mr. Wiggins will be having a conversation with fellow from Indian Country to give the audience a comprehensive understanding of development of fleet operations and clean energy efforts in Indian Country and rural areas around the MidWest, including what partnerships can be built to help bring cleaner fuels to these areas.

Chief Financial Officer Ozinga Energy

Mr. Van Den Brink holds a BSPA of Accounting and a Masters in Non-Profit Management, and boasts nearly 20 years of professional experience in financial management. Ozinga’s innovative approach not only includes deploying advanced engine technologies but also expanding public access to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) – produced from farm-based manure digesters. These local partnerships create a full-circle sustainability story: transforming agricultural waste into clean-burning fuel that powers fleets, lowers operating costs, and reduces environmental impacts. Mr. Van Den Brinkis an expert in lowering fuel and maintenance costs for fleets, diversifying energy portfolios, supporting local economies and agricultural communities. He will be discussing his experience with the financial benefits of fleets transitioning to CNG, the incentives available to choose CNG and future market trends of this alternative, cleaner fuel.

Fleet Accountant Executive Cummins

Mr. Miletta hails originally from the Chicagoland area, where he accrued years of experience in the heavy-duty transportation industry with Northwest Trucks and Trans Chicago Truck Group.  For the last 8 years, he has been employed with Cummins, starting as a field service supervisor and working his way up through the ranks to his current position. 10 of his working years have been spent specializing in CNG. Cummins is known worldwide for manufacturing durable, high-performance engines in heavy-duty applications such as commercial trucks, construction, and mining. The company is recognized for its power, torque, and reliability, making it a trusted name among transportation enthusiasts and industrial operators. Cummins has been at the forefront of creating alternative fuel engines, among which is a vast array of CNG models. Danny is an expert in the issues of operating CNG-based vehicles and covers the entire state of Wisconsin as a Cummins rep.

Director of the Alternative Energy Division, CMD Corporation

Mr. Schmoll is an industry leader in providing capital equipment and services to the Compressed Natural Gas Market. With a strong background in energy systems and innovation, Brad oversees the development and implementation of renewable energy products at CMD with an emphasis on CNG and RNG Compression systems.  His leadership is instrumental in aligning alternative energy strategies with long-term organizational goals, fostering collaboration, and promoting a cleaner energy future. Mr. Schmoll boasts in excess of 25 years of experience in the industrial equipment industry. Before his current position, Brad served as Manager of Technical Services for CMD in both international and domestic markets. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and an associate degree in Business Management from Fox Valley Technical College. He currently serves as Executive Chair of the Wisconsin Clean Cities board of Directors and will be providing us two appearances: as a panelist on Powering Tomorrow with Compressed Natural gas, answering questions regarding his experience with CNG, and providing a comprehensive presentation on the state of alternative fuels in Wisconsin.

Assistant Fleet Superintendent City of Madison

Rachel takes her Mayor’s mission to become a climate haven seriously! She is an unsung hero of Wisconsin’s Capital City – the go to person for  ordering fuel and ensuring proper maintenance of all fueling sites including the developing and overseeing of the fleet operating budget. She oversees a litany of personnel functions in the Fleet division of Madison from recruiting fleet employees to overseeing the department’s high school and college apprenticeship programs. Rachel has overseen the expansion of biodiesel and other clean fuels in the fleet, securing grant funding to support capital projects. She even worked with the IT department to get Madison’s massive Fleet worker team on an updated electronic payroll system, eliminating the need for paper time cards and furthering the departmental goal of being paperless! Ms. Darken has been integral to organizing our T&I expo from the very beginning.  Originally from Madison and a graduate of LaFollette High School, Rachel earned a BA from the University of Rochester in New York. Ms. Darken will be weighing in, with her vast experience helping to run the second largest fleet in Wisconsin, on why fleet transition efforts stall and what can be done about it. She will dive into real-world challenges like technology limitations, infrastructure maintenance, IT system selection, staffing capacity, and funding gaps.

Executive Director of the Wisconsin Propane Gas Association

Cheryl Lytle is Wisconsin’s leading expert in advancing propane’s role in our State’s energy future. She actively partners with propane marketers, suppliers, builders, and consumers throughout Wisconsin, serving as a wellspring of information on the availability of propane and the many health and environmental benefits that accompany propane adoption. She’s a storehouse of knowledge on propane safety, infrastructure, policy, and the financial incentives available for utilizing propane for both businesses and residential consumers. Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin–Stout and wields twenty years of leadership experience. Ms. Lytle will moderate a panel “The Road Ahead With propane Autogas” made of the Midwest’s top experts in Propane fuel to highlight its benefits such as lower emissions, reduced fuel costs, and reliable performance. Attendees will gain insights on infrastructure, funding opportunities, and success stores that demonstrate why propane Autogas is a prove, scalable solution for clean affordable transportation.

Regional Sales Manager of Electrification U.S. Energy

Zero Emissions Planner of HDR Inc 

Laura Lamboley is an Urban planner specializing in Green transportation, based in Wisconsin’s capital city of Madison, where she currently helps HDR Inc. plan the electrification of transportation systems.  She is well known in our State’s capital for being an expert in supporting transit agencies and municipalities with EV fleet transitions and charging infrastructure. Laura holds a Master’s of City Planning from the University of Memphis, where she worked on green transportation, housing, zoning and economic development for the bustling city of Memphis, solving traffic congestion issues and providing solutions to public transit, while minding continuity, zoning and safety concerns regarding its world famous historic districts.  Laura will be moderating a panel discussion on the reasons why fleet transition efforts stall and what can be done about it! Her topics of concern will touch on the current limitations of technology, maintenance of infrastructure, how to select IT systems, staffing and funding issues.

Director of Dane County Waste and Renewables

Mr. Welch has a BS from UW Madison in Civil & Environmental Engineering. Known in his field for ensuring Dane County’s Mission to provide an efficient and cost effective solid waste management program which protects the environment and conserves natural resources through innovative solutions. With less than 10 years of landfill space remaining at Dane County’s Rodefeld Landfill, John is redesigning how the community’s waste is managed. His vision includes the development of a Sustainability Campus that will host waste processors, recycling businesses, and even research and startup companies. The Campus is expected to bolster economic development in the area, create jobs, and foster reuse opportunities for materials that will help Dane County move toward a more circular economy.  The Dane County Department of Waste & Renewables has a long history of completing successful, innovative projects like the Renewable Natural Gas Plant and Offload Station, Construction and Demolition Recycling Facility, native prairie cover on the landfill, and the Trash Lab mobile education exhibit. John and his staff oversee operations of one active and two closed landfills; a C&D MRF; a year-round HHW facility; a landfill gas-to-energy system; and a landfill gas RNG facility. His recent and current projects have focused on sustainability, renewable biogas utilization and moving toward responsible resource management.  Past projects include a community manure digester, a food digester feasibility study, a landfill expansion, construction and start-up of the C&D MRF, and numerous biogas utilization projects.  In addition, he has helped lead the County’s conversion to CNG and development of its RNG facility, which converts landfill gas to CNG vehicle fuel.

Mike Basarich is the co-creator of Fleet Cycles, a Wisconsin-based company quickly becoming the leader in commercial eBike solutions by blending US manufacturing with best-in-class product and global demand. Designed in partnership with the US Air Force, the core product is a heavy-duty electric cargo trike that can be adapted for multiple commercial applications normally reserved for fleet vehicles and equipment. Combining breakthroughs in electric technology with an innovative design and US manufacturing has created a best-in-class product in significant demand by both US armed forces and commercial customers domestically and globally. Mike has decades of executive experience in the mobility sector and is responsible for launching the first-ever municipal cargo bike pilots in the United States. Additionally, he is an expert in multi-modal transportation and has led study tours for policy makers on the best practices in transportation infrastructure and design in both the US and Europe.

Mike will guide us through what we can learn from the US Air Force’s Electric Cargo Bike Integration. His topics will include the Military’s need for agile, cost-effective, low-maintenance, easily deploy-able, energy-efficient transportation, the case studies done on the deployment of fleet cycles in base operations, the benefits, cost savings, challenges, and future market forecasts.  This exciting presentation will include field trials, video footage, and live displays!

Daniel is the proud owner of Kobussen Buses, where he has successfully enhanced safety measures and reduced costs for school transportation systems across Wisconsin. His expertise extends to effectively training and managing a substantial team of drivers. Mr. Kobussen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, followed by an Executive MBA from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Under his leadership, Kobussen Buses Ltd. has grown to encompass over 1,100 dedicated team members who efficiently operate and maintain a fleet of luxury motorcoaches, school buses, and transit vehicles from 23 locations across Wisconsin. For more than 84 years, Kobussen has been dedicated to progressing into the future, fostering an environment where its friendly drivers treat those they transport like family. Their guiding principle is “Family Pride in Every Ride!” In recognition of their outstanding service, Kobussen was honored with the Contractor of the Year award by “School Bus Fleet Magazine” in 2012. He will be coming to T&I to share his expertise on what fleets can expect in transition, the costs, and the funding opportunities available to make the change.

Erika Kinney, holds a Bachelor of Engineering specializing in Industrial Systems. She earned her Six Sigma Green Belt in IISE Manufacturing and Design and is a proud member of the Society of Women Engineers. Erika began her career working Supply Chains at Bostik, moving onto Engineering Electric Bus Infrastructure for Twin Cities Metro Transit, one of the country’s largest transit systems, which operates an integrated network of buses, light rail and commuter trains. At HDR Erika helps plan Zero emissions projects. Erika will be discussing why fleets transition efforts stall and what can be done about it.  She will touch on topics such as current limitations of technology, maintenance of infrastructure, how to select IT systems, the common issues around staffing and funding that can lead to stalls and how to head them off before they become a problem.

Rob has been with Carbon Day EV Charging since 2015, As President, Rob is guiding the company’s mission guiding to make electric vehicle infrastructure both accessible and sustainable. Carbon Day EV Charging was one of the five original Channel Partners of ChargePoint, the global leader in EV charging technology, and has grown to support more than 550 organizations across North America. Here in Wisconsin, Carbon Day EV Charging has played a key role in building one of the Midwest’s most reliable charging networks. Through its long-standing State Contract with the University of Wisconsin (UW) System, Carbon Day has helped expand EV infrastructure across higher education and public institutions. Today, the company supports dozens of
organizations across the state — including the UW System (with multiple campus locations), Dane County, the U.S. Bank Building in Milwaukee, and the Wisconsin Department of Administration.

Rob a resident of Racine, brings a practical, educational perspective to EV adoption — focused on helping communities, businesses, and public agencies understand how to plan, implement, and sustain reliable charging solutions. His mission is simple: to help move the State of Wisconsin toward a cleaner, smarter transportation future, one station at a time. His presentation will be on the benefits of adding an EV Charger to one’s organization, how one determines what infrastructure they will need to electrify their organization, and how to start creating a sustainable footprint.

Programs Manager Electrification Coalition

Mr. Hertenstein’s career is dedicated to accelerating the implementation of EV infrastructure at the local, state, and federal levels through creating strategic partnerships, developing policy, and implementing support for governments and fleets nationwide. Before joining the Electrification Coalition, Brandt was a project coordinator for Metropolitan Energy Center and the Kansas City Regional Clean Cities coalition. He led a variety of projects focused on Electric Vehicles and EVSE education, awareness, and development. Brandt will be holding a session to explore the key elements of expanding electric vehicle charging access across three critical settings: workplaces, multifamily units, and public spaces. This presentation unearths the challenges of each and covers practical solutions for growing EV charging access. By the end of the session, participants will understand the unique needs, opportunities, and policies that drive successful charging deployment across these different environments.

Executive Director of Wisconsin Clean Cities

Fred is the former Mayor of the City of Ashland, Wisconsin, where he established the city as the first Eco-​Municipality in the nation. These efforts helped Mayor Schnook to ​increase funding to Ashland by ​over 350%. Fred previously served as a consultant with Foth, Inc., ​providing sustainable planning to private ​sector enterprises and municipalities across the mid-west. Fred has served as the City and Village ​Administrator in Kewaunee and Mukwonago, Wisconsin. Schnook ​also served as Wisconsin’s representative to the Great Lakes ​Commission. Mr. Schnook has lectured at universities across the mid west and numerous conferences internationally on Sustainable Planning, ​Economic Development, Eco-​Industrial Park Design and Creative Cities. Fred has a master’s ​degree in public administration from the University of Wisconsin-​Oshkosh.

Vice President of Business Development, Alliance Autogas, and Member of the Board of Directors, WIPERC

Josh Budworth’s began his career in the automotive industry by becoming an ASE Master Certified Technician, wrenching primarily on GMs and Saturns until returning to MATC to obtain an Associate’s in Business Management.  His multi-faceted, hands-on expertise was gained via marching up the ranks from mechanics to sales at Charter Fuels, then overseeing entire regions at Premier Cooperative, and becoming a Propane industry specialist with Alliance AutoGas, where he has now reached the lofty position of VP of Business Development! Mr. Budworth is recognized for having such a full breadth of experience in propane (mechanics, Negotiation, Operations Management, Sales, Customer Relationship Management, Team Building, etc) he has been welcomed to an advisory position at the Wisconsin Propane Education & Research Council. He will be coming to the T&I to discuss how propane lowers emissions, is more reliable and affordable than traditional petrol, especially how he has found it to be a proven, scalable solution for fleets. 

Senior Director of loT Solutions at Open Access Technologies International (OATI) 

Mr. Kiesow is an IT professional with a decade of experience in SaaS solutions, including software, infrastructure, and communication systems. Most recently tasked as a Subject Matter Expert to smart grid and electrification of transportation technology. Architecting, deploying, and supporting advanced smart grid solutions. Including a detailed understanding of Project Management skill sets for the software, hardware, and integration layers within a utility system.  He currently serves as a main point of contact for OATI’s hardware division and Smart Grid team. He boasts over 15 years of experience in IT systems, IT networking, and Field Area Networks along with Customer Support experience in Smart Grid technology. This background gives Mr. Kiesow a unique balance of technical knowledge, a focus on customer satisfaction, and an industry/business background.  Matt holds a BS in Computer Information Systems with a minor in Business Administration. He comes to the T&I to serve as a panelist on Micro Grid technology and their use in tribal and rural areas to obtain energy independence, mitigate the high cost of demand charges and lowering power outages.

Account Executive Open Access Technologies International (OATI) 

Mr. Clashin is a seasoned sales and business development management executive with 25+ years of progressive experience.  Known for his ability to embrace managing diverse sales campaigns and building rapport with the technical and C-level buyers. He coordinates and directs sales efforts for complex projects from initial requirements through design, installation, and deployment. He’s known in the industry for listening through out his end customers’ process from early adoption to mature direction for Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station infrastructure requirements. Mr. Clashin has been working with commercial property managers/owners for 5 years. He has worked with the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (CTCR), with 1.4 million acres of land located in Washington State, in driving an Energy Sovereignty Plan to enhance the lives of their tribal members with greater grid resiliency and access to EV Charging Infrastructure. The plan heavily emphasizes Microgrids, EV Charging for the public and for an alternative fuel revenue source, Tribal Fleet Electrification, and a future vision for bi-directional enabled Electrified School Buses.  Tim will be using his expertise to explain to attendees the benefits of micro grid technology, how they can manage EVs, mitigating high charge rates at peak demand times and provide energy independence.

Director of CNG Sales, North America ANGI Energy Systems

Mr. Myers has over 15 years of experience in the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) industry. Educated at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. He has worked on CNG projects around the US. Duties included design of CNG compressors and fueling systems, project management of station installations, and sales of CNG equipment. Chris joined the ANGI Energy Systems (a vontier company) team in April of 2014.  ANGI is a global leader in alternative fuel technology solutions. From designing and manufacturing advanced equipment for hydrogen refueling, compressed natural gas (CNG), and renewable natural gas (RNG) — some of which is produced right here in Wisconsin from landfill and farm-based manure digesters.  Mr. Myers will be discussing his experience with the financial benefits of fleets transitioning to CNG, the incentives available to choose CNG and future market trends of this alternative, cleaner fuel.

Mr. Wilson obtained an education in communications and media from St Norbert College before jockeying into fleet sales at Schneider, a major Wisconsin player in shipping & logistics.  Bringing the expertise he gained in the fleet industry, Patrick moved to Wisconsin Bus Sales, where he manages accounts, specializing in propane-fueled buses. Wisconsin Bus sales is a subsidiary of Cox Automotive Mobility, a global conglomerate with a focus on four key business areas—Fleet Services, Fleet Operations, EV Battery Solutions, and Emerging Ventures—the organization plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the global transportation ecosystem, which is poised to be autonomous/aerial, connected, electric, and shared (A.C.E.S.). Boasting a team of over 1,200 exceptional technicians and more than 750 mobile-service trucks, along with nearly 40 shop facilities, Cox Automotive Mobility offers the nation’s largest self-performing 24/7 emergency repair and towing service.  Patrick will be serving as a panelist on “The Road Ahead with Propane Auto Gas” breakout session, discussing his vast knowledge on infrastructure, funding opportunities, reduced fuel costs, and benefits associated with propane.

Will Kunce wields over a decade of experience managing fleet operations. Mr. Kunce holds a CDL B with Hazmat/Tanker endorsement, and a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University. Beginning his career with Ferrellgas as a material handler, Will’s talent and dedication propelled him to the position of District Manager with Lakes Gas, in a remarkably short time. Lakes is known for being family owned for over 65 years, and is among the largest propane providers in the Midwest. They have 54 locations yet maintain that small-town, local feel, with employees who live in the communities they serve.
