September 21, 2023 – Conservation, Renewables, and Resilience – CNG & EV Efforts

Ashland and Bayfield Counties – far north and rural Wisconsin Counties – have taken the initiative to plan and seek funding to support their alternative fuel goals.  Bayfield County is pursuing several funding opportunities and is deploying CNG and Electric Vehicles.  Xcel Energy assisted with helping to develop supportive utility programs enabling EV chargers to be viable as use ramps up.

Ashland County is in the planning phase through a program called Ashland Charges Ahead.  This monthly stakeholder engagement, education, and planning effort will enable them to apply for funding during the next round of CFI / NEVI.  The City of Ashland has recently installed several new EV charging stations.

This illustrates that counties with population of any size should be pursuing and can benefit from infrastructure development for both governmental and public use.
